(b) the number of houses sanctioned and completed under PMAY(U) since inception of the programme, year-wise details thereof and the expenditure incurred thereon?

ANSWER

THE MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) OF THE MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS
(SHRI HARDEEP SINGH PURI)

(a): In pursuance of the Government’s vision of “Housing for All” by 2022, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is implementing Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) [PMAY(U)] since 25.06.2015 for providing assistance to States/Union Territories (UTs) in addressing the housing requirement of the people belonging to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Lower Income Group (LIG) and Middle Income Group (MIG) categories in urban areas. The States/UTs have undertaken demand survey for assessing actual demand of housing under the PMAY(U) and the demand validated and reported so far by the States/UTs is around 100 lakhs.

Based on the project proposals received so far from the States/UTs, a total of 81,03,196 houses have been approved under the PMAY(U), out of which 47,57,987 are at various stages of construction and 26,07,913 are completed. Further, it is intimated that construction activities in a housing project, in general, have a gestation period of 18 to 24 months. States/UTs have been requested to expedite construction of approved houses so that construction of all houses may progressively be completed by 2022.

(b): Year-wise details of houses approved and completed alongwith central assistance released to States/UTs under PMAY(U) is at Annexure.
